Adhering to the Code of Ethics and being ethical can assist professional growth and build good character and value of a teacher. The Early Childhood Australia (ECA) Code of Ethics is a collection of statements in relation to appropriate and expected behaviour of early childhood professionals (ECA, 2021). Since the start of my professional career, I have been applying professional ethics and conduct towards my work. I was always punctual as this shows professional commitment to the service. This is evident on the work placement reports. I also value confidentiality when focusing on my academic studies by asking the parents for their consent to observe their children, as well as covering the faces of these children when the collected photos are to be published. In relation to this, I understand that information of the children in the centre are considered confidential and legal records of the centre.
The successful management of an early childhood setting is supported with a range of policies and procedures. Understanding the ethics and code of conduct is crucial in the teaching profession which takes into account the administration and policies and organisational requirements which impact the everyday running of a service. Therefore, I participated in centre inductions before the commencement of placement to understand the centre's expectations and duties in the centre. I also received permission from families before I observe children's learning, and development and greeted children's family during drop-off and pick-up.
